'Beautiful football' not enough to get over the line
Wednesday 9 July, 2008 12:01am
FAR North Metro had a heartbreaking start to the NSW under-15 boys soccer titles at Pluim Park, Lisarow, this week when it lost its opening two games.
Coming up against last year's winner Metro East in the opening game on Monday morning was always going to be a tough ask and, while the home side competed well in the first half, they went down 4-0.
"We played well but a few errors gave them their opportunities and they took them," Far Metro North coach Garry Chambers said.
Their second match on Monday afternoon was a closer result, with Metro South winning 1-0.
"We're playing beautiful football, no doubt about it, but we're playing without confidence," Chambers said.
While the Far Metro North players were disappointed with not getting a win on the opening day, they made the most of being able to gain match fitness.
Three of their past four club matches before the state titles were called off due to rain.
"This tournament is giving us some match fitness and allowing us to play ourselves back into a bit of form," Chambers said.
Central Coast players are in action across NSW in state under-11, under-14 and under-16 tournaments.
