Pipeline cost blows out to $110 million
07May08
Yarramalong Progress Association president Gerry Mouline and business woman Maidie Dodd oppose the recommended fourth route for the missing link.
A newly-proposed fourth route was criticised by many Yarramalong residents while the cost has blown out from the original $80 million to $110 million.
Residents fear the latest plan for the multimillion-dollar Mardi to Mangrove Creek Dam link will ruin their lives and businesses.
Those directly affected by the preferred route for the 21km link were told parts of their land would be compulsorily acquired and compensation paid accordingly.
The preferred route would have the pipeline run partly along Yarramalong Rd and partly through private properties with some tunnelling.
Despite several meetings between the community and the project team designing the route, many residents like Maidie Dodd said their concerns were ignored.
The latest plan will go to the next joint water authority board meeting on May 21.
Yarramalong Progress Association president Gerry Mouline said 63 residents attended a meeting last week and 78 per cent voted for following the road and overwhelmingly rejected the new option.
A Wyong Council spokeswoman denied reports that the cost of building the link had jumped to $200 million and said it stood at $110 million.
