RTA steps in to help with road repairs
Wednesday 7 May, 2008 12:01am
It said Gosford Council accepted technical support to fix it.
While adamant that Woy Woy Rd was a regional road and the responsibility of the council, the RTA said the closure was impacting the state network.
"In the interests of returning the state road network to normal as soon as possible, the RTA will work closely with Gosford Council to repair the council's road," a spokesman said.
"The RTA has at its immediate disposal engineering, construction, road work and traffic management expertise, staff and assets beyond that of the council.
"We recognise the impact this closure is having locally and have, therefore, made all these resources available to council to have the road re-opened as soon as possible."
After Woy Woy Rd was closed, the RTA adjusted traffic light phasings at the intersection of Central Coast Highway and Brisbane Water Drive to ensure Kariong Hill traffic got priority.
"The RTA has been on site at the intersection through every peak hour since the long weekend and will continue to monitor and adjust the traffic lights, " the spokesman said.
The RTA rejected claims that its funding formula was to blame for the state of the road. "This financial year the RTA will provide Gosford Council with $2.547 million for its regional roads," the spokesman said.
